Crypto.com Pay vs Coinbase Commerce

Two exchange-backed gateways with opposite cost shapes. Crypto.com Pay publishes zero on the transaction and 0.5% on settlement, and pays out fiat in USD, EUR and AUD. Coinbase Commerce publishes a flat 1% and settles on chain into USDC, with a listed parent whose filings anyone can read. Pick on whether you want fiat in a bank or a counterparty you can audit.

Two exchanges, two ideas of what a merchant wants#

Both providers are the payments arm of a large exchange, and that is where the resemblance ends. Crypto.com Pay is built to get a merchant local currency: it converts at payment, charges 0.5% at settlement and wires USD, EUR or AUD above a published minimum. Coinbase Commerce is built to keep the merchant on chain: it charges 1% and settles into USDC on the networks it supports, leaving the bank leg to the merchant.

That single design difference explains almost every row in the table. A finance team that wants dollars on Tuesday reads the first card and stops. A team that already runs stablecoin treasury reads the second and finds the simpler product.

What each one publishes about cost#

Crypto.com Pay states no transaction fee and a 0.5% settlement fee, with bank transmittance charges explicitly attributed to intermediaries. That is three components named, two of them as numbers. Coinbase Commerce states a flat 1% with no monthly or setup fee, and publishes nothing about conversion or payout, since on-chain settlement into USDC has no payout step the provider charges for.

On the arithmetic the Crypto.com card is cheaper by half for a merchant settling fiat, and the two are close for a merchant settling crypto once the exchange's own withdrawal fees are counted on the Coinbase side. Neither is expensive by the standards of the catalogue.

The counterparty question#

Coinbase Commerce is the clearest answer in this index to who am I contracting with: a subsidiary of a listed company whose accounts, risk factors and regulatory history are public documents. For a procurement process that asks the question, that card answers it in one line.

Crypto.com Pay names a Malta entity authorised as a crypto-asset service provider, which is a firm answer of a different kind: a licensed European entity rather than a public one. Both are far ahead of the median provider here, which names nothing at all.

Onboarding, and who gets refused#

Coinbase runs merchant onboarding through the exchange's compliance function, requiring business and identity verification, and it is known for declining verticals other providers accept. That is documented in the card's cons because it decides whether the product exists for you at all.

Crypto.com Pay describes its process only as compliance approval. The absence of detail is not the same as lightness, and a merchant in a sensitive vertical should assume both exchanges will ask the same questions. Neither publishes a timeline.

Plugins against an API#

Crypto.com Pay lists six maintained plugins plus a REST API with refunds, subscriptions and invoices. Coinbase Commerce publishes its integrations less clearly, and the card records them as not disclosed, which in practice means a hosted checkout and an API rather than a plugin catalogue.

For a small merchant on a hosted platform that gap is decisive. For a developer building a checkout, both APIs are adequate and the Coinbase one has the longer track record.

The closed-loop advantage#

A customer holding a balance in the Crypto.com app pays a scan with no gas and no wait, and that is the conversion advantage the card leans on. Coinbase Commerce does not offer an equivalent in-app flow for its own users at checkout in the same way; payments are on-chain transfers from any wallet.

Which matters depends on your customers. An audience that already uses one exchange app is a real segment, and the provider whose app they hold wins that segment by default.

Where this pair lands#

Crypto.com Pay for a merchant who wants fiat in a bank at a published half a percent and has customers on the app. Coinbase Commerce for a merchant who wants USDC on chain from a counterparty whose solvency is a matter of public record.

Both are custodial between payment and settlement, and both publish enough to be compared honestly, which is why this page exists. The weights decide the order; the design decides the fit.

Вопросы, которые задают мерчанты

Which one pays out in fiat?

Crypto.com Pay, in USD, EUR and AUD with published minimums per currency. Coinbase Commerce settles on chain into USDC, and getting to a bank from there is the merchant's own exchange step.

Which is the safer counterparty?

Coinbase Commerce is the more legible one: its parent is a listed company with public filings. Crypto.com Pay contracts through a licensed Malta entity, which is a regulated answer rather than a public-market one.

Кто дешевле: Crypto.com Pay или Coinbase Commerce?
