NOWPayments CoinGate

Breadth against transparency: which gap costs you more?#
This pair is the clearest example of a trade the whole category forces. NOWPayments publishes 350 or more assets and one number about what they cost. CoinGate publishes ten or so assets and every number attached to them, down to what a SWIFT withdrawal takes and what a crypto payout costs on top of the percentage.
Which gap hurts depends on a fact about your customers, and the weights will not decide it for you rather than about the providers. If they pay in three assets you can name, CoinGate's list is not a constraint and its fee table is a genuine advantage. If you sell into markets where the asset mix is unpredictable, NOWPayments removes a class of lost sale that no fee table compensates for.
What does European settlement change here?#
CoinGate is a Lithuanian company and it shows in the settlement design. SEPA withdrawals are free and stated as free, which for a euro-banking merchant makes the total cost computable to the cent before signing anything.
NOWPayments publishes nothing about fiat settlement, and its non-custodial design suggests the answer is that settlement reaches a wallet rather than a bank. For a merchant who intends to hold stablecoins that is preferable and cheaper. For one whose finance function needs euro in a bank account weekly, it is a different product.
What should you ask each of them?#
Ask NOWPayments for the conversion spread and the payout cost as numbers, because those are the two figures standing between its published 1% and a total you can compare. Ask whether merchant verification applies to your jurisdiction and vertical, since nothing about that is published.
Ask CoinGate whether the assets your customers actually use are live for merchants in your country, rather than listed globally. Its fee table is close to complete, so the open question is coverage rather than cost, and that reverses the usual order of a procurement conversation.
Who is each one wrong for?#
NOWPayments is wrong for a business whose finance team needs a computable cost before approving a vendor. Two of the three cost components are unpublished, and no amount of asset coverage answers a procurement question about total spend.
CoinGate is wrong for a marketplace with unpredictable international demand. Ten or so assets covers the common cases and loses the uncommon ones silently, since a customer who cannot pay does not file a complaint about it.
How the two disclose#
One publishes 68% of the fields this index tracks and the other 89%, and the gap sits almost entirely in the cost components. That is the practical difference between an evaluation you can finish from a browser and one that needs a week of correspondence.
Neither figure is a judgement about product quality. Disclosure measures how much of the relationship is knowable before you commit, and for a merchant who has to justify the choice internally that is a separate and often decisive property.
What a year of each looks like#
With CoinGate you know your cost from month one and it does not move unless the published table does. With NOWPayments you know the processing component and discover the rest through settlements, which is workable and slower to budget against.
Coverage runs the other way over the same period. A store on CoinGate meets the asset list occasionally and quietly loses those orders; a store on NOWPayments effectively never does. Which of those two annoyances costs more depends entirely on who your customers are.
What to send both of them#
Ask NOWPayments for the conversion spread and the payout cost, which are the two figures standing between its published rate and a comparable total. Ask CoinGate whether the assets your customers actually hold are live for merchants in your country, since that is the one line holding its card back.
The answers are asymmetric on purpose. One provider needs to fill in cost and the other needs to fill in coverage, and whichever gap you can least afford is the one that should decide this.
Send both on the same day and give them a week. Written answers compare; answers from calls do not, and a provider that responds to a factual question with positioning has told you something about the next two years.
Reading this pair by business type#
A European store with a settled customer base should take CoinGate, and the fee table is the reason rather than a tiebreaker: it lets the decision be defended without a single email. A marketplace or a business selling into markets it does not control should take NOWPayments, because the asset list prevents a loss that never shows up in any report.
A business that intends to hold crypto rather than convert leans toward NOWPayments for a second reason: it is documented non custodial, so settlement reaches a wallet you control and the provider's solvency stops being your problem.
A business whose finance function wants euro in a bank on a schedule should not seriously consider NOWPayments, whatever the asset list says. That is not a criticism of the provider, it is a description of two different products.
What would change this comparison#
NOWPayments publishing a conversion figure would close most of the gap, because coverage already favours it and cost is the only line where CoinGate clearly wins. CoinGate widening its asset list would do the same from the other direction.
Until either happens, the comparison rests on which unknown you can least afford, and that is a fact about your customers rather than about either provider.
If you only do one thing#
Count how many orders in the last year involved an asset outside a list of ten. If the answer is zero, CoinGate is the better provider for you and the fee table is a genuine advantage. If it is not zero, you have just measured what the coverage gap costs, and no pricing clarity compensates for revenue that never arrived.
What this comparison leaves open#
Neither provider answers the settlement question the same way, and this page has treated that as secondary. It is not, for a business that has to bank the money: one of these settles euro to a bank at no cost and the other settles to a wallet you control. Those are different products wearing the same category label, and a merchant who needs the first should not be choosing on asset counts at all.
Both cards carry the date they were last checked, and pricing pages in this category change without announcement. Re-read the source pages before signing rather than trusting a comparison written weeks earlier, including this one.

Вопросы, которые задают мерчанты
Which is better for a store selling worldwide?
NOWPayments, on asset coverage alone. A store selling into markets where the asset mix is unpredictable loses sales to unsupported currencies, and no fee table compensates for a customer who cannot pay.
Which is better for a European merchant?
CoinGate, in most cases. Free SEPA withdrawals and a fully published fee table let a euro-banking business compute the total cost before signing, which is not possible with NOWPayments from public pages.
